About Koru Montessori Preschool
Koru Montessori is a small, high-quality Montessori preschool located in Sunnynook, on Auckland’s North Shore. Established in 2006, we provide a warm, welcoming early learning environment for children aged 2–6 years.
Inspired by the symbolism of the koru, the young, unfurling fern frond representing growth, new beginnings, and life, our centre is dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential through movement, discovery, and hands-on learning.

Children in our care learn to make their own choices, relate positively to others, and take pride in who they are and where they come from. Our classrooms are calm, purposeful spaces where children feel respected, supported, and part of a close-knit learning community.

A licensed early childhood centre for up to 28 children
Low teacher-to-child ratio of 1:7 (exceeding Ministry of Education standards)
Teaching practices grounded in Montessori philosophy and Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum
Highly qualified, experienced teachers who offer consistent, responsive, and respectful guidance
Individualised planning based on each child’s interests and developmental needs

Love for Animals: At Koru, our pets including budgies, rabbits, and chickens are an integral part of our Montessori environment. Tamariki learn to care for them with gentleness and respect, developing empathy, responsibility, and a deep connection to the natural world through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
